In 2004,  thousands of native Hawaiians, many dressed in red T-shirts emblazoned with the words KU I KA PONO ("justice for Hawaiians"), turned Waikiki's main boulevard into a vast red river to stand up for Hawaiian rights at a time when many feel their rights, lands and entitlements are under attack.  The march ended at I‘olani Palace where speakers enlightened the masses.  This was the first of many protests that the artist and her then 6 year old daughter participated in.

This piece comes from a collection of paintings representing my earlier years in Hawaiʻi, my impressions of this magical place, and the scenes that you will only find here.
